Saudade - My Sweet Melancholy by Sushmita Nair: Book Review

Book: Saudade - My Sweet Melancholy
Genre: Poetry
Author: Sushmeeta Nair
Publication: Notion Press
Rating: 4 / 5 stars

Sushmeeta Nair has made her debut with her book, Saudade - My Sweet Melancholy. Saudade is a short collection of poems that's divided into four sections: the first represents self-love, the second describes the love between two hearts, the third outlines heartbreak, and the fourth presents kahaaniya (stories) of life.

At just 19 years of age, Sushmeeta has done an outstanding job in keeping her poems simplistic and pure with mesmerizing energy. She has included some stunning and amazing photos, the writings under them taking your breath away. The inclusion of Hindi poems (Kahaaniya) is a treat. The most helpful part is that they are in the English version as well, for those who are not able to read in Devanagari, which I found to be a wise decision. Her poems resonate with every soul, especially those who doubt themselves or have had a bad heartbreak.

The book reveals to you the touching stories of endurance, low self-assurance, distress, and all the negative notions surrounding us. The book is deep, sensitive, and intense that leaves you completely absorbed. It's enthralling to think from the poet's point of view and look at the world through her eyes. While reading each piece, you will realize that there is a strong message that she is trying to convey for those who have lost hope or require a morale boost.

Pure and Pious, Free Bird, The Fault in Her Stars, Anmol Rattan, and Pyaar Ikraar are some of my favorite poems from the book. It's also a perfect read for anyone who wants to make a start in reading poetry. Some poems are so good that you can't help but read them over and over again. This book will leave its readers a lot to reflect on; everyone will find something to appreciate. In terms of writing, there is scope for grammatical improvement that be taken care of in the next edition.

Sushmeeta, kudos in publishing this amazing debut book; keep up the good work and looking forward to more such beautiful works from you.
